Obesity, an aging population, and the inappropriate practice of sports such as running or football are among the main causes of this increase.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In Spain, osteoarthritis generates an annual government expenditure of 4.738 million euros and health policies still do not provide an adequate response to the needs of patients.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>On the occasion of the International Rheumatic Diseases Day, Barcelona is hosting an International Congress which, among other topics, will discuss new treatments, the impact of the disease on sex life, sport and why our bones hurt when it is going to rain.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oafifoundation.com\/en\/event\/ii-international-congress-patients-osteoarthritis-2018\/\"><strong>2nd International Congress for Osteoarthritis Patients<\/strong><\/a>, organised by OAFI, International Osteoarthritis Foundation, will take place on 9 and 10 October 2018 at the Axa Auditorium in Barcelona, on the occasion of the International Day of Rheumatic Diseases (12 October). The event will be free of charge and open to all.<\/p>\n<p>This annual international event focused on osteoarthritis patients is a meeting place for patients, medical experts, scientific societies, public administrations, research and development centres and other entities related to osteoarthritis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: inherit;\">The sessions are aimed at <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; letter-spacing: inherit;\">informing, raising awareness and training<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: inherit;\"> on best practices for the prevention, research and treatment of this <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; letter-spacing: inherit;\">pathology that affects 300 million people worldwide<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; letter-spacing: inherit;\">.
