In the society in which we live, the volume of information available to us is growing faster and faster. This information is often not transmitted by professional or appropriate preceptors, and is often biased, incomplete, inadequate or outright lies and becomes a hoax. That is why we must understand and find out what the source is and discern between truthful information and hoaxes. Hoaxes: a Public Health Problem<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are health hoaxes being launched?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The intention, when a health hoax is launched, is to harm a third party. The creators of the hoax seek to profit from the discrediting of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a brand or person is badmouthed, the next time we hear about it, we will look at it with suspicion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reasons for the spread of health hoaxes:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

1. The intention to harm a third party<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The creators of this hoax seek to profit from the discrediting of others. When a brand or person is badmouthed, the next time we hear about it, we will look at it with suspicion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Hoaxes created to create social alarm<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The most obvious example is that of the unidentified old man in a hospital. Although the message has no negative connotation, its creator seeks to see how far his lie spreads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Messages that implicitly conceal the real interest of the person sending them.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is the case of the classic spam emails that we receive because our email address has been given to a company that considers that we are interested in their products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do health hoaxes spread so fast?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ease of creating accounts on social networks and legislative loopholes encourage this type of cybercrime, so users should be vigilant when surfing the web. Those who spread hoaxes do so because they believe them to be true and that they will help all their acquaintances and contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
