From OAFI, we would like to wholeheartedly congratulate Dr José María Villalón, Head of the Medical Services at Atlético de Madrid, on being honoured with the 2025 Medicine and Sport Award, granted by the Madrid Sports Press Association (APDM).

This prestigious recognition highlights more than three decades of professional career, marked by dedication, scientific rigour and a constant commitment to health, injury prevention and sporting performance at the highest level. Dr José María Villalón has established himself as a leading figure in sports medicine, combining clinical excellence with a holistic approach to the care of the athlete.

For OAFI, this award has a very special meaning. Dr José María Villalón is a patron of OAFI, a key figure for our organisation, and an indispensable expert voice in driving initiatives that promote joint and musculoskeletal health in the sporting sphere. His active involvement, scientific judgement and human commitment have been instrumental in strengthening the project and its future prospects.

Likewise, Dr Villalón is co-director of OAFI Sport and scientific co-director of the ‘Articulando el Deporte’ Congress, a leading forum that fosters dialogue among professionals in medicine, sport and research. In this context, OAFI will soon hold the VI Congress “Articulando el Deporte“, a key meeting to continue making progress in prevention, tackling joint pain and improving the quality of life for sportspeople, both professional and amateur.

Furthermore, the Dr. José María Villalón’s help and participation with an annual masterclass in the International Patients Congress of our Foundation.
