The OAFI Foundation organizes the first Sports Medicine Symposium “Articulating Sport”, organized together with the Medical Services and the Atlético de Madrid Foundation and the Spanish Olympic Committee. This annual event is dedicated to sport at an amateur and professional level, with the aim that the practice of physical exercise is carried out in optimal physical conditions and taking care of the joints for a long and active life.
Some athletes push their bodies to the limit to improve their performance. This added stress increases the number of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries, including joint injuries. Unfortunately, there are many athletes with joint health problems: patellar or patellofemoral chondromalacia, osteoporosis, pain, chronic and acute inflammation, among others.
Osteoarthritis can appear at an early age due to the intense practice of sport and the lack of knowledge on how to prevent it. The wear and tear on the joints and injuries are the main causes of osteoarthritis, mainly of the hip and knee, hands and shoulders. Enjoying a full, active and sporty life is possible if we know how to take care of our joints and extend their useful life. From this need “Articulating Sport” was born. A joint effort by OAFI, the Atlético de Madrid Foundation and the Spanish Olympic Committee to focus attention on the healthy practice of sport.
