2nd Joint Symposium on Sports

The 2nd Joint Symposium on Sports is coming! This event will take place on March 9, 10 and 11, 2022 at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee in Madrid. Top doctors, renowned personalities and professional athletes will meet next March to enjoy 3 days that will turn the city of Madrid into the epicenter of good sports practice.

This is the second edition of this symposium dedicated to sport at amateur and professional level, with the aim that the practice of physical exercise is done in optimal conditions and taking care of the joints for a long, active and quality life. Some athletes push their bodies to the limit to improve their performance. This added stress increases the number of musculoskeletal disorders and injuries, including joint injuries. Unfortunately, there are many athletes with joint health problems: chondromalacia patellae or patellofemoral, osteoporosis, pain, chronic and acute inflammation, among others.

Osteoarthritis can appear at an early age due to the intense practice of sports and the lack of knowledge on how to prevent it. Joint wear and tear and injuries are the main causes of osteoarthritis, mainly in the hip and knee, hands and shoulder. Enjoying a full, active and sporty life is possible if we know how to take care of our joints and extend their useful life. Joint Symposium on Sports was born out of this need. A combined effort by OAFI, the Atlético de Madrid Foundation and the Spanish Olympic Committee to focus attention on the healthy practice of sport.

After last year’s edition, held entirely in online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will be the first year that the Symposium will be held in a hybrid format. First of all, the presentations will take place in person following all safety and security measures, taking into account the capacity to ensure the protection and well-being of our attendees. Shortly after, the event will be broadcast online through our YouTube channel. Thus, the videos of the tables and conferences of the Congress will be available for those interested to watch them again or for the first time.
